My Approach
My Approach
Every child is different, so I combine proven approaches to support and guide.
SCERTS (Social Communication, Emotional Regulation, and Supportive Strategies)
I help children build confidence in how they communicate, understand others, and manage big feelings. This means giving them the tools to feel calmer and express themselves.
Zones of Regulation
Children learn to notice and name their feelings, and practise simple strategies to get back to a place where they feel balanced and ready to cope.
UDL (Universal Design for Learning)
Every child learns in their own way. I use flexible, strength-based methods so children can show what they know and grow in ways that work best for them.
Social Development
This is how children learn to get along with others, understand feelings and see different perspectives.
Example of Mentoring: Year 7 child, autistic, finding friendships challenging.
Social Communication & Emotional Support (SCERTS)
Practise simple conversation starters.
Use a breathing or grounding exercise to feel calm.
Role-play with “safe” conversation ideas.
Emotional Regulation (Zones of Regulation)
Recognise feelings (e.g., feeling sad or worried at breaktime).
Brainstorm ways to feel more comfortable and confident.
Different Ways to Learn (UDL)
Watch a short video showing friendly social interaction.
Practise the situation through role-play.
Social Skills in Action
Practise responding when someone says “no” or doesn’t answer.
Explore how others might feel.
Set a small goal: e.g., say hello to one classmate at school and share how it went next session.
✅ Outcome
Child gains practical tools for conversations and coping.
Develops greater self-awareness.
Builds confidence with a real-life challenge outside the session.
